By this stage we've all heard plenty of buzz about the Internet of Things (IoT). We've had promises of self-refilling fridges and cars that alter their route by monitoring road conditions. But what actually is the Internet of Things?
The IoT is the connection of all devices to the internet. This is not just phones, tablet, computers and laptops, but all sorts of devices such as cars, ovens, toasters and lights. These devices are all connected together via the IoT, which allows them to communicate with each other. When these devices are connected and a system of automation is put into place, it is possible for them to deliver a certain desired response. For example, when your alarm goes off in the morning to wake you up, it also signals the coffee maker to start brewing a cup. Handy right? See more ways that the IoT might be implemented into our lives in the short video below.
The possibilities that the IoT could provide are endless and exciting! However, there are some things about the IoT that are causing concern, such as reduced privacy, creating an over reliance on technology and job loss due to automation.
Whilst the IoT seems to be an area with massive potential and exciting opportunities, we must also remember the drawbacks that could be attached, and if possible find a way to address them before they become a problem!
