To honour International Women's Day which took place earlier this month (Wednesday 8th March), we’re taking a look at some of Ireland’s top women working in technology.

Sinead McSweeney - Managing Director of Twitter Ireland

McSweeney was appointed as managing director of Twitter Ireland last December after working there for just over four years. She is also acting Vice-President for Public Policy and Communications for Twitter’s EMEA region.

McSweeney, who is also a qualified barrister has previously worked as a political adviser for the Irish Government and was director of communications for An Garda Síochána.

Speaking about McSweeney, Twitter’s Chief Operations Officer Anthony Noto said that she “exemplifies Twitter’s culture and leadership” and that he has no doubt that she “will be an inspirational leader for the team”.

Sonia Flynn- Vice President of SoundCloud International

At a time where SoundCloud are looking to expand their presence, having released their new subscription service SoundCloud Go, Sonia Flynn is the woman in charge of managing the company’s commercial strategy in international territories. It is an exciting time for SoundCloud who have recently struck deals with major record labels including Warner, Merlin and Sony, making it a direct competitor with rivals such as Spotify.

Prior to becoming VP of SoundCloud International, Flynn was Managing Director of Facebook Ireland for six years and before that Director of Operations at Google Ireland.

Cathriona Hallahan- Managing Director of Microsoft Ireland

Cathriona Hallahan MD of Microsoft Ireland

Cathriona Hallahan began her time at Microsoft around 30 years ago, working as an accounting technician. Since then she has slowly but surely worked her way up the ranks, being named Managing Director in February 2013.

When Hallahan began working at Microsoft Ireland there were less than 100 employees. During her time there, she has seen this number grow to 1,500, with further growth planned for the coming months as Microsoft expands its operations.

Over the years, Hallahan has received several accolades that commend her work at Microsoft including being named Image Magazine’s CEO businesswoman of the year in 2014, being inducted into the Women’s Executive Network Hall of Fame in 2015 and she was also made a member of the International Women’s Forum.
